Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, first performed on Good Friday 1727, is widely considered one of the crowning artistic achievements of Western Civilization. Bach’s masterful musical interpretation of the Last Supper and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, puts chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of Matthew to music and spans 131 minutes. The Symphony’s production is unusual in that it is a full staging of the work with the Colorado Symphony Chorus. Featured tenor Nicholas Phan takes on the part of the Evangelist and baritone Hadleigh Adams performs the role of Jesus.
